The Asian Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA) Executive Board is excited to announce Lessa Kanani’opua Pelayo-Lozada as its next Executive Director. Her term begins in June 2019, at the end of the ALA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. Pelayo-Lozada is a former APALA President (2016-2017) and currently serves as an American Library Association (ALA) Executive Board member and chairs ALA’s Steering Committee on Organizational Effectiveness (SCOE). She is the Adult Services Assistant Manager at the Palos Verdes Library District in Southern California.
The APALA Executive Board would also like to express its gratitude to Buenaventura “Ven” Basco, for his continued service to the organization including as Executive Director (2012-2019) and as President (2007-2008).
The APALA Executive Director position is a three-year, renewable term. It is an appointed position by the President and approved by the Executive Board.
