The Asian Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA) is rooted in the values of social justice, diversity, advocacy and community, among others. We reaffirm our commitment to these core values. We continue to acknowledge that our systems are entrenched in oppression and white supremacy, which create hostility and violence against people of the global majority. We stand firmly against antisemitism, Islamophobia and the misinformation being spread in the media. We denounce the increase in book bans that silence diverse voices and rob readers of increased empathy and knowledge. We condemn the continued rise in censorship, intimidation and violence toward authors and information workers.

We must remain resolute in the fight for intellectual freedom and the right to be ourselves, whatever that may look like. We must demand more from the people and institutions in power. We must not let fear and despair win.

We do good work. Let’s keep it going.
