Dear APALA members,
The Asian Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA) Executive Board is proud to endorse Dr. Maria McCauley in the American Library Association’s 2026-2027 Presidential election. Dr. Maria McCauley (she/her) is the Director of Libraries for the City of Cambridge where she oversees administration, finance, facilities and operations across seven libraries. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University, a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh and a PhD from Simmons.
She has been a long-standing member of APALA and beyond, including as Councillor-at-Large for the American Library Association, Executive Board Member for the American Library Association, and President of the Public Library Association. Maria is an informed, energetic, and committed leader with a robust engagement and service track record.
APALA values her strong relationship building among APALA and numerous organizations and communities including ALA, PLA, Massachusetts Library Association, New England Library Association, Minutemen Library Network, and others. Prior to her current position, McCauley was the Director of Libraries for the City of Somerville, and the Director of Libraries in Santa Monica. A proven leader, McCauley has undertaken extensive stakeholder engagement, prioritized equitable library services for all, and elevated the visibility of library workers in the community. We believe her track record of library leadership, commitment to DEI, and true passion for libraries makes McCauley an exceptional candidate for ALA President.
