Members of APALA (Asian Pacific American Librarians Association) and their guests recently celebrated our 30th anniversary with a gala at during the ALA Annual 2010 Conference! The gala featured a six-course Chinese dinner, speakers, and live entertainment with the Lao American Women Association dance group and Bollywood singing duo Subodh Sen and Sameer Shah. Dr. Franklin Odo, recently retired director of the Asian Pacific American Program at the Smithsonian Institution, was the keynote speaker.
At the gala, APALA also honored the winners of the 2010 Asian Pacific American Award for Literature for children’s and adult literature.
Additional anniversary events during the conference included free tours of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Library of Congress, White House, and the National Archives.
