(Note* – Starting June 1, 2024, the APALA listserv migrates to apala-members@apalaweb.org. See the APALA Listserv Migration FAQ for more details.)
APALA-Members is the official listserv and discussion forum for members of the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA). All messages should be relevant to Asian/Pacific American librarians and those who serve Asian/Pacific American communities. To create a welcoming and respectful space, we ask that all participants follow these guidelines.
Using the Listserv
- All members in good standing are automatically added to the listserv
- To send a message, email apala-members@apalaweb.org
- To manage the frequency of messages or to unsubscribe, adjust your settings in Google Groups.
Guidelines
- Maintain a culture of respect. Refrain from all forms of harassment or offensive material.
- Respect the rights and privacy of others.
- Exercise judgment when replying to the entire list vs. to an individual. Only send a message to the entire list when it contains information that everyone can benefit from.
- Refrain from posting commercial messages or solicitations.
- Members may share information about professional library-related elections, but should refrain from endorsing or campaigning for political parties or candidates.
- Currently, as a member benefit, members can share job postings from their institutions to the listserv if they wish. However, members cannot be compelled to post on behalf of their institutions.
- Members’ institutions should be directed to the APALA Career Center page. If the institution is an institutional member, the designated member who signed up for institutional membership, should post on behalf of their institution.
- Members should refrain from forwarding job ads on behalf of non-APALA members/organizations and encourage those non-APALA individuals/organizations to join APALA to gain such benefit. APALA members can also direct non-APALA members/organizations to the APALA Career Center.
- Members may share library professional development–related opportunities and research activities including a call for proposals, abstracts, and survey/focus group/interview participants, etc.
APALA has the right to remove members who violate these guidelines. If you have questions about the listserv or these guidelines, please contact membership@apalaweb.org.
The APALA Listserv Guidelines were last updated and approved by the Executive Board on November 1, 2021, and revised/approved on April 14, 2024.
